The HSC provides a variety of complex on-scene assistance in support of state, federal and local governments during times of natural and made-made disasters.
The HSC provides training, technical assistance and incident response pertaining to a variety of Homeland Security, school safety and emergency management issues to state, federal and local emergency management, public safety, and education professionals. This position will also review and evaluate emergency management plans according to state and federal guidelines. The HSC will respond to suspected acts of terrorism, threats to school safety, and assess the situation to assist in coordinating the State response. The HSC will provide Homeland Security support to local Law Enforcement and work closely with the GBI. The HSC will provide training and technical assistance to include the review of emergency plans and procedure for schools and businesses. Certified and involved in Homeland Security related issues, School Safety, and consequence management activities for natural or man-made disasters within the State of Georgia. Under general supervision, the HSC will be Georgia P.O.S.T. The general scope of work will fall within the HSC’s designated region of Georgia, but support may be required anywhere in Georgia and in rare cases other states. The HSC will be required to live within the geographic area assigned or re-locate at their expense to the area within 90 days. In addition, GEMA/HS employees are on 24-hour call statewide to assist local authorities when disaster strikes.
Homeland Security Coordinator (HSC): As part of the Office of the Governor, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) works with local, state, and federal governments, in partnerships with the private sector and faith-based community, to protect life and property against man-made and natural emergencies.
